I had a wonderful time in the Speakeasy room! We were a group of two, with one of us being new to escape rooms. It was a great challenge with unique puzzles, simple decor to keep you focused on the puzzles, and multiple linear puzzle tracks so it was easy to know what lead to what typically. Our moderator Missy was very sweet and gave quick hints to keep us rolling. Good room for those looking a room focused on the puzzles and less story. If primarily newbies, I'd recommend a larger group but if all players are experienced you could absolutely be on the smaller size. Can't wait to come back again! (Also there is a company small dog who is super cute and gentle!
This was our 2nd Room at Stumptown. First time we tried, and also failed, Tanasbourne Pirates. This time we tried Starcrash and it was very challenging! We had 7 of us and did not make it out. Despite that we had a blast :) Our host Missy was amazing and helped make our experience fun. These rooms are very well thought out and challenging. Here is hoping 3rd times a charm.
I don't even like escape rooms, but I booked this for my partner's birthday because he loves them, and it ended up being so much fun! We played The Oregon Files, and it was so great! It had many layers, surprises and was just the right amount of challenge; hard, but not impossible! The staff was great and wonderful to interact with during the game, they were supportive, encouraging and funny! Great time all around, and looking forward to going back soon!
Really fun experience! I have to say it says 13 and up, but for my 14 daughters it was REALLY difficult. I am sure not all of the rooms are the same but for us it was extremely challenging. Also, the statement was that if you didnt make it out, you didnt graduate your space test. Kind of lame compared to the other escape room they just went to for a friends birthday. It was scary and more teen friendly I guess. You were in a scary house and had to get out otherwise you would stay there forever and die. A little bit more exciting than being in a space theme room that was just mostly confusing. Also all of thr riddles/clues were in no specific order in this escape room, making it extremely confusing and stressful because everyone is working on seperate things and no one knows what to work on next. They didnt start solving the clues until almost 30 minutes in, and did not make it out of the escape room. Prices were really great however, and the staff was amazing! Our gamemaster gave some good hints which we needed and were fun to be around! Overall, probable more of an adult escape room though.

The owner has contacted me, and we have resolved this issue. As escape rooms are not inexpensive, I would always still caution people prior to booking, and make sure you know the refund/rescheduling policy.
The rooms really are fantastic, and the game masters are always wonderful. So this is one of our favorites in the Portland area.

Caution When Booking
My initial experience with this company was VERY good. The rooms are great. My most recent experience with this company has been very negative.
I had booked their new room- Alchemist's Revenge, paid online, received my confirmation code. The day before our escape room, I received an email saying THEY needed to cancel our booking. When I asked why, they told me it was due to the room not being complete because of low staffing issues. Not a problem, I told them, I just asked for a refund so I could work with the group that I was going with, and find a time to rebook later.
After several emails, and them trying to book me into another room (and me explaining that I have done all the other rooms), they have proceeded to ghost me. I have tried emailing multiple times, I have called multiple times, my husband has called multiple times.
Matt, the owner is completely non responsive, and he's holding onto $150 of my money for an escape room we haven't been able to play. Looking online, it says that if you have up to 2 times to reschedule your game without fee, and we haven't even heard from them about rescheduling once.
I would proceed with caution when booking with them. Since we couldn't control that they cancelled on us, and are ghosting us now.
This was such a fun experience with 4 teenage girls. We tried out the “Pirates of Tanasbourne”. The staff was helpful throughout. I was worried the girls may feel defeated if they didn’t escape in time but they asked lots of questions and the staff was great at giving timely clues to help guide them. All the girls loved it!! The set decorations and overall vibe was a hit!
We will be back for more! One of the best places we have been for an escape room. We did the speakeasy and had a blast. The staff is super friendly and makes it easy to get into it. Nice big waiting area while your group gets there. Test locks in the lobby to test and learn with.
This is my favorite of the escape rooms in the Portland area. The games are fun, immersive, difficult but not punishing.
Stumptown uses a monitor to allow you to communicate with the Game Master and I think it works super well; it allows you to stay in the experience but still interact when needed.
You should definitely give these rooms a try!
